So I ripped this album off the internet (don’t worry, I’ll be buying a hard copy when it comes out), and the site I got it from had a lot of haters posting about it. Rhianna sings on one of the songs and everyone trashed it, but guess what? I like it. I like the whole album, even though one guy said that the “mix was so bad it was physically painful to listen to” (lolwhatevr). This album is definitely different in a lot of aspects but you can still hear traces of Viva la Vida on it and other sounds that are “Coldplay-ish”.
They didn’t trash their sound, I don’t think- they just did something different. I think we all (myself included) have mastered the art of expecting something particular from a band and we forget that musical creativity doesn’t always stay the same.
Some bands have made their mark with what they do best. They found their style and stuck with it; this isn’t a negative thing. However, some bands choose to recreate their style time after time, and we get so stuck on the old that I think we cannot appreciate the new. I encourage you with the new Coldplay, and any new album, to not expect a certain sound but to enjoy a record for what it is: creativity at its best.
